How to Use a Bench Vise: Installation and Operation Guidelines
Proper installation and operation extend the service life of a bench vise and ensure safe clamping. Begin by mounting the vise on a solid, level workbench using the standard bolt holes; tighten all mounting bolts evenly so the base sits firm without rocking.
Before use, clean the jaw surfaces and check that the screw and handle move smoothly. To clamp a workpiece, open the jaws wider than the part, position it against the fixed jaw, then close the movable jaw until the piece is held securely — avoid over-tightening, which can deform thin workpieces or damage the screw.
For rotating work, use the swivel base lock to fix the orientation. After operation, remove chips and debris, lightly lubricate the screw, and keep the vise covered in a dry environment. Regular inspection of jaw inserts and bolts maintains reliable performance.
